For couples waiting to be in one place
Long distance during the visa wait
A long wait for a visa is a particular kind of apart: the end isn’t a date you can pick. This page is about the days inside it, and what’s worth keeping for the day you’re home.
The same moment, seen from two cities.
This isn’t legal or immigration advice, and nothing here says how long anything takes. For the process itself, go to the official source, such as USCIS for US petitions.
The time difference
Their day, as it is.
When one of you is eating lunch the other is going to bed, and over a long stretch that can start to feel like two schedules that never meet. It helps to see each other’s day as it is, not as a guess.
Each side of your sky is the real one above each of you: the time of day, the weather right now, and the temperature in the units you each grew up with. A glance tells you whether they’re asleep, on their way to work, or under the same rain you just walked through.
You don’t have to be awake together. Record something at the end of your day and it waits on their Today, closed, for the start of theirs.
Rituals that survive a long wait
Small, and not on a schedule.
The ones that last don’t need a timetable. Four that fit a long wait, each made into a small paper thing.
Parallel dates
Cook the same meal or watch the same film, each in your own kitchen, and photograph your table for them. If you both photograph the sky on the same day, Two Lights sets the two side by side as one.
A song for their walk
A song with a line about why: for the walk to work, or the night before an appointment. It joins your mixtape.
Postcards from where you are
Stamped and postmarked with your city, and a new stop on your globe, wherever you travel or move for a while.
Your voice
The tram behind you, the kettle, your laugh: something to play on a bad day.
For the day you’re home
A long wait is long enough to forget what it was like.
So Two Lights keeps it as you go. The scrapbook lays out everything you left as a book to page through, week by week, in each of your handwriting. It’s finished the day you’re both home, and it’s made on your phone, nothing uploaded.
The globe
Every city you were apart in. Turn it, tap a city, and see what you left there.
The mixtape
Every song you sent: Side A from one of you, Side B from the other, with the line you wrote for each.
Letters that open then
Write a few now. Sealed “When home”, they open on the return date you’ve set. Not sure of the day, or want one there the moment you arrive? Seal it “I’ll reveal” and open it yourself. Prompts for open-when letters.
Free during early access. Everything you leave is private to the two of you: no feed, nothing public.
Questions
Is this immigration or legal advice?
No. Two Lights is a private keepsake app for couples. It can’t tell you how long a process takes or what to file, and we don’t make promises about timelines.
Can I use it if we don’t know the day we’ll be together?
Yes. A letter sealed “I’ll reveal” opens when you decide, so it doesn’t need a date. One sealed “When home” opens on the return date you’ve set. If the plans move later it waits for the new day; if they move sooner, a letter already sealed doesn’t open earlier.
What does it cost?
Nothing while we build it with the first couples. If that ever changes, you’ll hear first, and everything you’ve made stays yours.
More questions
Does my partner need to install anything?
No. They sign in from a link you send, with their email by a link or a six-digit code. It works in the browser on iPhone and Android, and can be added to the Home Screen.
Ask for a sky for the wait.
Two cities and an email. We’ll set up your sky by hand and send you your own link when it’s ready.
